MISSION:

Increase the visibility of artists living at the US-Mexico Border to transform how Americans perceive the region.

This strategic communications campaign was a multi-faceted effort with several key stakeholders to amplify and expand upon Reclaiming the Border Narratives Projects (RBN).

The Reclaiming the Border Narrative project was a three-year effort initiated by the Ford Foundation and implemented in partnership with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, University of Arizona, and the Center for Cultural Power. It is part of a long-term effort to expand perceptions about the border region from one of chaos and danger to one of vibrant culture in which both residents and migrants can live with dignity, respect and joy.

Anastasia was enlisted to serve as the Sr. Project Director of the Strategic Communications Campaign. We then worked with Sunshine, Sachs, Morgan & Lylis (SSM&L) as our PR Agency partner who pitched stories about the artists and op-eds to local and national outlets.

The Symposium

The campaign culminated in an invitation-only symposium hosted by the University of Arizona’s Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry and University Libraries’ Special Collections where a digital archive of the RBN project will live on for future generation. The archive is a free, public, easy-to-access online resource that will change and expand perceptions and narratives about migration and the U.S.-Mexico border region by including authentic stories from the affected communities that comprise this region.
